WHY DID HE COME UP WITH THIS IDEA?
I’m a family guy in my mid-thirties who dreamt to come up with unique idea because I had to and believe me I have been dreaming to come up with something new and original like so many other entrepreneurs have done in the past.
I have spent 15 years of my career in IT related field mainly IT infrastructure dealing with networks, servers, storage systems and part of IT security.
I quit my job in May 2015 while I was heading the IT infrastructure department for a company called MILLICOM which has different operations in Africa and Latin America running telecom businesses. My colleagues and family thought I was crazy to leave my job to pursue my dream as an entrepreneur.
Many people face challenges after quitting their jobs, and some even resume employment after a couple of months. But I’m glad that I’m hitting the 6th year in May 2021 as self-employed. Wireships is the second business that I will be running together with my current IT Consulting Company.
HOW DID I COME WITH THIS IDEA
After quitting my job I had to build company profile and references by delivering IT services, solutions and supply of IT equipment but soon enough I started facing issues when I had to offer very competitive prices when it comes to supplying IT equipment in companies based in Rwanda. I was spending most of my margin in shipping purchased items from Dubai to Rwanda through courier companies. So I decide to start working with so-called broker in Dubai that will take goods purchased (Ex. Laptops, network equipment, Servers and other devices) to the airport to find travelers that are willing to carry extra weight and as well have interest in making few bucks for the additional weight they were going to take with them and deliver to me.
I was able to reduce shipping cost by working with brokers and travelers and at the same time managed to make a reasonable margin on every item I supplied. Eventually, it became apparent that I could make even more without using the broker as the middle man.
People have been facing challenges while trying to purchase some particular products which aren’t available in their locale. Without an option, most times, they are willing to pay a fortune for a small parcel. This is exactly where Wireships helps. Wireships connects you with travelers who will help you buy and ship your goods to any part of the world.
